Take Advantage of Opportunities on the Stock Market – Analyst to Ghanaians

By: Solomon Tetteh Nartey
Economic Analyst, Emmanuel Boateng, has encouraged Ghanaians to take advantage of opportunities on the stock market, stressing that entry requirements are more accessible than many assume.
Speaking on Business Breakfast on ZED 101.9FM, Mr. Boateng noted that individuals do not need large sums of money to begin investing in equities. According to him, with as little as GH¢100, one can participate in the stock market.
“You don’t need GH¢10,000 or GH¢50,000 to get into the stock market. Even with GH¢100, you can start,” he said.
However, he cautioned that while the market is accessible, it comes with significant risks that investors must understand before committing their funds.
Mr. Boateng pointed to recent developments where the market recorded sharp losses.
“In just two days, March 25 and 26, the market lost GH¢44 billion. That tells you how quickly things can change,” he explained.
He reassured investors that such fluctuations are a normal feature of the market, noting that prices can decline rapidly but may also rise just as quickly, sometimes exceeding expectations.
Despite the volatility, the analyst urged investors not to panic during downturns but to remain focused on long-term gains. He emphasised patience as a critical virtue for anyone seeking to succeed in stock market investing.
“Don’t be afraid; it is part of the nature of the market. Prices can fall fast, but they can also rise fast,” he stated.
Mr. Boateng also highlighted the issue of liquidity, explaining that not all stocks are easily tradable. He said while some equities offer high liquidity, meaning shares can be bought and sold quickly others may not, which can affect investment decisions.
He further warned that returns in the stock market are not guaranteed, unlike fixed-income investments.
“This is not a fixed-income market. If you are looking for guaranteed returns, then the stock market may not be for you,” he added.
Mr. Boateng advised prospective investors to carefully assess their risk tolerance, understand market dynamics, and remain disciplined in their investment approach to navigate the uncertainties of the equity market successfully.
