First Lady Joins Global Summit on Children’s Digital Safety in Washington, D.C.

First Lady of Ghana, Lordina Dramani Mahama, is currently in Washington, D.C., participating in the Fostering the Future Together Global Coalition Summit, a two-day international forum dedicated to creating safer and more inclusive digital spaces for children.

The summit, convened by former First Lady of the United States, Melania Trump, brings together first spouses, policymakers, and global stakeholders to deliberate on the challenges and opportunities presented by the digital world. Central discussions will address children’s online safety, equitable access to technology, and promoting responsible digital practices in an increasingly connected society.

Mrs. Mahama’s involvement reflects Ghana’s proactive stance on protecting young people in cyberspace, while also leveraging technology as a tool for learning, empowerment, and sustainable growth. Ahead of her participation, the First Lady highlighted the shared duty of leaders worldwide to safeguard children from digital risks.

“Ghana is committed to ensuring that technology serves as a means of empowerment rather than a source of harm for our children. Protecting their future is not only a moral obligation but a responsibility we owe to the next generation,” she remarked.

The summit will also explore actionable solutions to pressing issues such as cyberbullying, online exploitation, and the digital divide, while examining policies and strategies that can foster safe, inclusive, and accessible online environments for all children globally. Experts and delegates will exchange ideas on how nations can collaborate to strengthen regulatory frameworks, raise awareness among families, and equip children with the skills needed to navigate the digital world safely.

Mrs. Mahama’s engagement at the summit underlines Ghana’s broader commitment to advancing child-focused digital policies and highlights the country’s readiness to contribute to global efforts aimed at creating secure online spaces. Through such initiatives, Ghana seeks to champion innovation while ensuring that children can benefit from technological advancements in a safe and supportive environment.
