Prez. Mahama Swears In Kalsoume Sinare as Ambassador to Spain

President John Dramani Mahama has commissioned veteran actress and filmmaker Kalsoume Sinare Baffoe as Ghana’s Ambassador-designate to the Kingdom of Spain, marking her formal transition from the creative arts into diplomatic service.

The commissioning ceremony took place at Jubilee House, where she took the oath of office, oath of allegiance, and oath of secrecy. By this mandate, she is expected to represent Ghana’s interests abroad, promote foreign policy objectives, and strengthen bilateral relations between Ghana and Spain.

Speaking after the ceremony, President Mahama congratulated her on the appointment, noting that her new role carries significant responsibility. “Your appointment is a call to service at the highest level,” he said. “You are entrusted with advancing Ghana’s interests and deepening our partnerships with Spain.”

For her part, Ambassador-designate Sinare expressed gratitude for the confidence reposed in her. “I am deeply honored by this opportunity to serve my country in a new capacity,” she said. “I will work diligently to strengthen the longstanding relationship between Ghana and Spain and to promote cooperation in areas that benefit both nations.”

She succeeds Regina Appiah-Sam, who previously served in the post. Appiah-Sam brought extensive experience to the role, having served in Ghana’s Foreign Service since 2002.

Ghana and Spain have maintained diplomatic relations since 1967, building cooperation in trade, investment, maritime security, renewable energy, tourism, and agriculture. Spain’s Focus Africa 2023 initiative has further supported efforts to expand economic and strategic ties with African nations, including Ghana. The establishment of Spain’s embassy and commercial office in Accra in 2008 strengthened institutional collaboration and increased economic exchange between the two countries.

Sinare Baffoe, widely recognized for her contributions to Ghana’s film industry, rose to prominence in the 1990s through acclaimed performances in several productions. Beyond entertainment, she has remained active in public engagements and national advocacy.

As she assumes her new diplomatic responsibilities, she is expected to leverage her public profile, leadership experience, and international exposure to advance Ghana’s cultural and economic interests in Spain.
