Newmont Pays GH₵12.8bn in Taxes in 2025

Newmont Corporation has reaffirmed its position as one of Ghana’s most significant contributors to domestic revenue, paying a total of GH₵12.822 billion in taxes and statutory obligations to the state in 2025.

The payments, made to key government institutions including the Ghana Revenue Authority, Forestry Commission, and the Ministry of Finance, reflect the company’s continued role in supporting Ghana’s fiscal stability and economic development.

A breakdown of the company’s 2025 contributions shows that Corporate Tax accounted for GH₵5.382 billion, while Mineral Royalties stood at GH₵1.628 billion. Carried Interest payments amounted to GH₵1.832 billion, underscoring the state’s equity participation in mining operations. Notably, Capital Gains Tax reached GH₵3.025 billion, largely driven by the sale of Newmont’s Akyem Mine in April 2025.

Additional payments included GH₵514 million in Pay-As-You-Earn (PAYE) taxes, GH₵434 million in Withholding Taxes, GH₵15 million in Forestry Levies, and GH₵2 million in Property Rates.

Beyond its fiscal contributions, Newmont continues to play a strategic role in advancing Ghana’s socio-economic development agenda through targeted investments in infrastructure, environmental sustainability, and community development initiatives.

In 2025, the company collaborated with the Government of Ghana through the Ministry of Roads and Highways to rehabilitate the 46-kilometre Sunyani–Ntotroso–Akyerensua highway. The project is expected to significantly enhance transportation efficiency between the Bono Region and Ahafo Region, while improving road safety and facilitating economic activity for communities along the corridor.

The company also contributed to the government’s “Tree for Life” initiative, a national afforestation programme aimed at restoring degraded lands, revitalising forest ecosystems, and promoting environmental sustainability in the face of growing climate challenges.

Country Manager for Newmont Ghana, Danquah Addo-Yobo, emphasised the company’s longstanding commitment to responsible mining and transparent governance.

“Over the years, we have consistently played a leading role in the mining industry, not only through our fiscal contributions but also through our environmental stewardship and the value we create for local businesses and communities. The promptness, accuracy, and public disclosure of our statutory payments underscore our strong governance principles,” he stated.

Newmont remains Ghana’s leading gold producer and continues to prioritise responsible resource development that delivers sustainable value for both local communities and the national economy.

Globally, Newmont stands as the world’s leading gold mining company, with operations spanning Africa, Australia, Latin America and the Caribbean, North America, and Papua New Guinea. In addition to gold, the company produces copper, zinc, lead, and silver, supported by a diversified portfolio of high-quality assets.

Founded in 1921 and publicly traded since 1925, Newmont is the only gold mining company listed on the S&P 500. It has earned a strong reputation for its environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards, alongside its focus on safety, operational excellence, and long-term value creation.

With its continued investments and significant fiscal contributions, Newmont’s footprint in Ghana underscores the critical role of the mining sector in driving revenue mobilisation, infrastructure development, and sustainable growth.
