GFA Targets Historic World Cup Final Appearance

The Ghana Football Association has set its sights on reaching the final of the FIFA World Cup 2026, in what would be a historic achievement for the Black Stars.

Speaking in an interview, the GFA’s Communications Director, Henry Asante Twum, outlined the team’s ambitious vision, stressing a step-by-step approach to success on football’s biggest stage.

“We want to qualify from the group, progress to the next stage, reach the quarter-finals, advance to the semi-finals, and ultimately make it to the final,” he said.

Ghana will be making its fifth appearance at the World Cup, with the 2026 edition scheduled for June and set to be co-hosted by Canada, the United States, and Mexico.

Drawn in Group I, the Black Stars will come up against Panama, England, and Croatia in what is expected to be a competitive group.

As part of preparations, Ghana will face Austria in Vienna on March 27, before travelling to Stuttgart for another friendly against Germany on March 30, 2026.

Austria has also named its squad for the encounter, which includes defender Kevin Danso, adding an extra layer of intrigue to the fixture.

Following the March friendlies, Ghana will wrap up its World Cup preparations with a final test against Wales at the Cardiff City Stadium on June 2, 2026.

With preparations intensifying, expectations continue to rise as Ghana aims to make a deep run and possibly rewrite its World Cup history.
