Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has urged staff of the government’s communication ministry to embrace innovation, collaboration and adaptability to enhance the delivery of public information in Ghana’s rapidly evolving digital landscape.
During a working visit to the Ministry at the Presidency, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang emphasized the importance of proactive engagement, encouraging staff to share ideas, challenges and solutions directly with leadership rather than waiting to be approached.
She reassured the Ministry’s personnel of the government’s commitment to supporting their work and underscored the central role their efforts play in advancing national development.
The Vice President highlighted the growing influence of digital media in shaping public opinion and stressed the need for the Ministry to rethink how information is produced and disseminated. With an increasing number of citizens consuming content via tablets, smartphones, and other digital platforms, she called for the exploration of alternative formats and channels to reach wider audiences.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang emphasized that staying ahead of trends, rather than reacting to them, is key to ensuring relevance in today’s information environment.
Addressing the issue of misinformation, she noted that information is rarely entirely neutral, as the selection of what is included or omitted can influence public perception. She challenged staff to ensure that government communication remains balanced and credible, providing diverse perspectives that enable citizens to make informed decisions and avoid being misled.
While commending staff for their ongoing contributions, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang encouraged a continuous drive for improvement and innovation. She reinforced the government’s support for the Ministry, urging employees to remain committed to excellence and to uphold the administration’s broader vision through their work. This engagement forms part of the Vice President’s broader initiative to strengthen the effectiveness and responsiveness of government communication, ensuring that public information is delivered efficiently, accurately, and in ways that meet the needs of a digitally connected population.
