Otto Addo Set to Name Black Stars Squad for Germany, Austria Friendlies

Ghana Black Star Coach, Otto Addo is expected to announce his squad in the coming days for Ghana’s international friendlies against Germany and Austria later this month, as part of preparations for the upcoming FIFA World Cup.

The Ghana national football team will face Germany on March 27 in Stuttgart before travelling to Vienna to take on Austria three days later.

The number of players to be invited is yet to be confirmed. However, the head coach is expected to hand opportunities to several players seeking to prove their worth for possible inclusion in the final World Cup squad.

Regular members of the team such as Benjamin Asare, Gideon Mensah, Antoine Semenyo and Kamaldeen Sulemana are widely expected to receive call-ups.

However, several key players have reportedly been ruled out due to injuries, including Mohammed Kudus, Mohammed Salisu, Abu Francis and Ernest Nuamah.

One of the major talking points surrounding the squad selection has been whether Addo will recall André Ayew, Ghana’s most-capped player, whose potential return has dominated discussions in recent weeks.

Ayew has not featured for the senior national team in the past two years but has recently reignited calls for a recall following regular appearances for NAC Breda in the Eredivisie. The 36-year-old has made 10 appearances for the club, including five starts and scored one goal.

Meanwhile, players such as Prince Kwabena Adu, Kelvin Nkrumah of Medeama SC, and Prince Osei Owusu of CF Montréal are among fringe players who could earn invitations.

Meanwhile, the Black Stars have been drawn in a challenging group alongside England, Croatia and Panama as they aim to reach the knockout stage for the first time since the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
