Govt Rolling Out Policies to Tackle Youth Unemployment – Finance Minister

The Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has stated that the government is implementing major policies and programmes aimed at creating sustainable jobs, particularly for young Ghanaians.
According to him addressing youth unemployment has become a key priority as the country works to consolidate its economic recovery and strengthen long-term stability.
Dr. Forson made the remarks after a meeting with Paschal Donohoe, Managing Director and Chief Knowledge Officer at the World Bank, where they discussed Ghana’s economic transformation and the next phase of the nation’s development agenda.
The Finance Minister noted that over the past year, the government’s primary focus was to reset the economy and place it on a sustainable growth path.
“Today, one of our major challenges is unemployment, particularly among our youth. Africa has a rapidly growing youthful population, and public sector employment alone cannot provide the opportunities our young people need,” he said.
He added that the government is therefore introducing policies and programmes aimed at stimulating private sector-led growth, enhancing entrepreneurship, and expanding opportunities across multiple sectors of the economy.
These initiatives are intended not only to create jobs but also to equip young people with the skills and platforms needed to thrive in a competitive environment.
Mr. Donohoe commended Ghana for significant improvements in national finances and emphasized the World Bank’s commitment to supporting the country’s development efforts.
He highlighted initiatives such as a Jobs and Growth Analysis, which will help identify new opportunities for employment creation.
Dr. Forson welcomed the continued partnership with the World Bank, expressing optimism that collaboration will help generate jobs, expand economic opportunities and secure a more prosperous future for Ghanaians. He reaffirmed that tackling youth unemployment remains central to the government’s national development agenda.
