India Offers Scholarships to Ghanaian Students

The High Commission of India in Accra has announced that applications are open for scholarships under the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) for the 2026–2027 academic year.

These scholarships, offered through India’s Ministry of External Affairs, will allow Ghanaian students to pursue undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral studies at recognised universities and institutes across India. The initiative is part of India’s ongoing educational cooperation with Ghana, aimed at strengthening academic exchange and building capacity.

For the new academic year, two scholarship schemes have been made available. Under the India–Africa Maitri Scholarship Scheme, 70 slots have been allocated for Ghanaian students. These cover programmes in both STEM and non-STEM disciplines at participating Indian universities.

Another programme, the Lata Mangeshkar Dance and Music Scholarship Scheme, focuses on Indian culture and the arts. Areas of study include dance, music, theatre, performing arts, sculpture, Indian languages, and Indian cuisine. It also offers a one-year diploma course in yoga at selected institutions.

The ICCR scholarships provide full financial assistance to successful applicants. The package includes return economy-class airfare, tuition fees, a monthly stipend, accommodation support, and other allowances in line with ICCR regulations. This comprehensive support is designed to ensure that students can focus fully on their studies without financial burden.

Applications must be submitted online through the ICCR Admission to Alumni (A2A) Scholarship Portal. The High Commission announced that the portal opened on 27 February 2026, and the deadline for submission is 15 April 2026. Applicants are encouraged to apply early to avoid last-minute challenges.

Prospective students have been advised to carefully review eligibility criteria, academic requirements, and details of participating universities before completing their applications. The High Commission has stressed the importance of ensuring that applicants select programmes that match their academic background and career goals.

Further information on the scholarship schemes is available on the website of the High Commission of India in Accra. Enquiries may also be directed to the mission via email.

The scholarships highlight India’s commitment to supporting Ghanaian students and strengthening ties between the two countries through education and cultural exchange. By offering opportunities in both academic and cultural fields, India is helping Ghanaian students gain skills and experiences that will benefit them and their communities.

This initiative is expected to deepen the partnership between Ghana and India, while giving young Ghanaians the chance to broaden their horizons and contribute to national development upon their return.
