My Gospel Album is Almost 90% Complete – Sarkodie

Ghanaian rap icon Sarkodie has revealed that his long-anticipated gospel album is close to completion and could soon be released to the public.
The award-winning artiste made the disclosure during an interview with Aaron Akinyemi on BBC News Africa ahead of his performance at the Rapperholic Concert in the United Kingdom.
Providing an update on his upcoming projects, the rapper said the gospel album has reached its final stages after years of work and preparation.
“This year, I have a gospel album. We are like less than 90 percent there, so that album and a couple of singles here and there that I will be dropping,” he disclosed.
Industry reports indicate that Sarkodie has been developing the project for more than eight years, making it one of the most anticipated releases of his career. The album is expected to mark a significant shift in his musical catalogue, which has largely been dominated by hip-hop and rap.
Fans who attended the Rapperholic concert were treated to an energetic performance from the rapper, but it was his revelation about the gospel project that generated widespread excitement among followers.
During the interview, Sarkodie also addressed long-standing claims that he created the popular Ghanaian dance style known as Azonto. The rapper dismissed the notion, explaining that the dance already existed within the Ga community before it gained global recognition.
“I did not invent the Azonto dance, that is not true,” he clarified.
He, however, acknowledged playing a major role in promoting the genre and helping to push it onto the international stage.
“I’m definitely part of the people who made Azonto what it is worldwide. It was something already in the Ga community that was happening. The dance was already there,” he explained.
Sarkodie’s comments have renewed interest in the upcoming gospel project, with fans eager to see how the rapper blends his signature style with inspirational themes.
With nearly a decade of work invested in the album, expectations remain high that the project could become a defining moment in the celebrated artiste’s career.
