GSE Records Historic Milestone in Latest Trading Session

The Ghana Stock Exchange recorded a historic milestone on Tuesday as the benchmark GSE Composite Index broke through the 15,000-point mark for the first time in history, closing at 15,185.49 after a massive gain of 598.32 points.

Trading data for the 7,169th session held on March 10, 2026, reflected strong investor confidence across the equities market, with the GSE Financial Stocks Index also rising significantly by 252.74 points to settle at 9,538.68.

The rally pushed total market capitalisation to an unprecedented GH¢277.97 billion, up sharply from GH¢267.45 billion recorded in the previous session, as investors continued to pour funds into listed equities.

A total of 2,503,371 shares were traded during the session, with the market recording an aggregate value of GH¢24,014,498.26, representing a notable increase in trading activity compared to Monday’s session.

Banking Stocks Lead Rally

Among the top performers was Standard Chartered Bank Ghana PLC, which delivered one of the strongest gains on the market, surging by GH¢6.28 to close at GH¢69.14. The impressive rally further strengthened the bank’s position as one of the top-performing stocks on the market this year.

GCB Bank PLC, however, remained unchanged at GH¢52.00 despite recording strong trading activity. The stock saw 154,831 shares exchanged, contributing GH¢8,052,212 to the market’s total value.

Similarly, Access Bank Ghana PLC closed flat at GH¢46.64.

GOIL and MTN Ghana Power Market Surge

Ghana Oil Company Limited emerged as one of the standout performers of the session, gaining GH¢0.21 to close at GH¢6.60. The energy company recorded a trading volume of 756,136 shares, the second-highest for the day, contributing GH¢4,990,454.97 to the total market value.

Meanwhile, Scancom PLC, operators of the MTN Ghana network, continued its bullish run on the market. The stock climbed by GH¢0.39 to close at GH¢6.33.

MTN Ghana also remained the most actively traded counter of the session, with 1,187,562 shares changing hands, contributing GH¢7,509,411.87 to the market’s total value.

Insurance and Financial Stocks Gain

Other notable gainers included SIC Insurance Company PLC, which rose by GH¢0.54 to close at GH¢5.98, while Republic Bank (Ghana) PLC advanced by GH¢0.29 to settle at GH¢3.26.

Ecobank Transnational Incorporated also gained GH¢0.17 to close at GH¢1.91.

In the pharmaceutical segment, Dannex Ayrton Starwin PLC posted a marginal gain of GH¢0.03 to close at GH¢0.41, while Atlantic Lithium Limited remained unchanged at GH¢6.52 despite recording active trading.

Societe Generale Records Only Decline

The only stock to record a decline during the trading session was Societe Generale Ghana PLC, which slipped slightly by GH¢0.02 to close at GH¢11.37.

Market Outlook

Market analysts note that the strong performance reflects sustained investor optimism and growing participation in the equities market.

Since the beginning of the year, the GSE Composite Index has delivered a remarkable 73.15 percent return, while the Financial Stocks Index has surged by an impressive 105.26 percent, effectively more than doubling investor capital within just over two months.

Tuesday’s session marks the continuation of a historic rally that has gathered momentum since late February, with market watchers now eyeing the 16,000-point level as the next major psychological milestone for the Ghanaian equities market.
