CAF to Decide on 2026 WAFCON Fate within 48 Hours

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is expected to announce a decision on the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) within the next 48 hours.
Speculation over a possible postponement has intensified in recent days, raising uncertainty about whether the tournament will proceed as scheduled.
Reports last week suggested that CAF is considering rescheduling the continental competition, which will also serve as the qualifying tournament for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
Although CAF has yet to issue an official statement addressing the reports, the organisation’s Head of TV and Commercial, Luxolo September, has indicated that clarity is imminent.
“CAF will communicate within the next 48 hours on the situation regarding the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. There have been several discussions for weeks. The matter is receiving urgent and high-level attention,” September wrote on his page on X, formerly known as Twitter.
The tournament is currently scheduled to take place in Morocco from March 17 to April 3, with qualified nations already in preparations for the competition.
