Gov’t Set to Roll Out NHF Enrollment for Affordable Housing Units

The government is preparing to commence enrollment for prospective homeowners under the National Homeownership Fund (NHF), as part of a renewed push to make housing more accessible to Ghanaians.
The initiative is designed to bridge the country’s housing deficit and provide affordable accommodation options, particularly for low- and middle-income earners who often struggle to secure decent housing.
The Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources, Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, announced the development after touring ongoing housing projects at Shai Hills and Tema Community 22. According to him, the projects are progressing steadily and are close to completion.
He revealed that the housing units at both sites are between 95 and 98 per cent complete, signaling the government’s readiness to begin formal processes for allocation. Prospective beneficiaries will soon be able to sign agreements under flexible ownership models, including rent-to-own arrangements.
The Minister explained that the NHF is also working with selected banks to roll out mortgage packages tailored to suit the income levels of ordinary workers. These partnerships, he noted, are intended to ease the financial burden associated with homeownership by offering manageable payment plans.
Under the scheme, qualified applicants may either opt for gradual payment plans through rent-to-own agreements or access mortgage facilities backed by the NHF in collaboration with participating financial institutions.
Mr. Adjei stressed that the broader objective is to expand homeownership opportunities and ensure that working-class citizens can secure decent and affordable homes without excessive financial strain.
The National Homeownership Fund forms a key component of the government’s housing strategy, which seeks to reduce the national housing shortfall while promoting inclusive urban development. With construction nearing completion, officials say enrollment will begin soon, paving the way for many Ghanaians to take a significant step toward owning their own homes.
