The United Kingdom has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Ghana’s economic transformation through sustained and targeted investments across strategic sectors of the economy.
Delivering the keynote address at the Study UK Alumni Awards Ghana 2026, the Deputy UK High Commissioner to Ghana, Keith McMahon, underscored the UK’s confidence in Ghana’s economic prospects and pledged continued collaboration to unlock growth opportunities.
“We strongly believe in the potential of the Ghanaian economy. That is why the UK will continue to invest in targeted areas that promote innovation, job creation, and shared economic growth,” Mr McMahon stated.
He emphasised that deepening trade and investment flows, alongside strengthening educational partnerships, remains central to the UK’s engagement strategy with Ghana. According to him, fostering innovation-driven enterprises and supporting youth development are critical pillars in building long-term prosperity.
The event, organised by the British Council, celebrates Ghanaian professionals who pursued higher education in the UK and are now making significant contributions to national development across multiple sectors.
Country Director of the British Council, Nii Doodoo Dodoo, highlighted the enduring strength of Ghana–UK relations and the transformative role of alumni in advancing that partnership.
“Our partnership with Ghana has never been more relevant. Study UK alumni are playing transformational roles across sectors, driving innovation, leadership, and positive social impact throughout the country,” Mr Dodoo Dodoo said.
He noted that alumni networks serve as vital bridges between the two nations, facilitating knowledge exchange, investment opportunities, and institutional collaboration.
Award recipients at the ceremony expressed gratitude for the recognition, describing it as both humbling and motivating. Several winners said the honour reinforces their commitment to leveraging their skills and global networks to support Ghana’s socio-economic progress.
One awardee remarked, “Receiving this honour reminds me of the importance of giving back to our communities. It is both humbling and inspiring.”
The Study UK Alumni Awards celebrate excellence in leadership, business, science, culture, and social impact. Recipients are selected based on their professional achievements, community impact, and sustained efforts to strengthen UK–Ghana ties.
The ceremony further underscored the role of education diplomacy in advancing bilateral relations, with both countries signalling continued cooperation in innovation, skills development, and inclusive economic growth.
