Ilyas Ansah Rules Out 2026 World Cup Call-Up for Ghana

German-born forward Ilyas Ansah has revealed that he has no immediate plans to play for Ghana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, despite widespread speculation linking him to the Black Stars.
The 21-year-old attacker has been reportedly monitored by the Ghana Football Association (GFA), which is actively scouting dual-nationality players to strengthen the national team ahead of next year’s global tournament. Ansah’s name had featured prominently in discussions among fans and football analysts, raising hopes that he might commit to Ghana.
However, the young forward, who has represented Germany at various youth levels, clarified that he is yet to make a decision regarding his senior international career. He emphasized that his current focus remains on his club commitments and upcoming competitions before choosing which country to represent.
“After the U21 European Championship, I will look into next year and make a decision. As things stand, I won’t be going to the World Cup with Ghana,” Ansah told the media.
Ansah currently plays for 1. FC Union Berlin in Germany, where he has scored five goals and provided two assists in 26 appearances this season. His performances in the Bundesliga have attracted attention from clubs and national teams alike, highlighting his potential as a rising talent in European football.
While Ghanaian fans may be disappointed by Ansah’s statement, it underscores the challenge national teams face in securing commitments from dual-nationality players. The Black Stars will continue their preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, blending experienced campaigners with emerging talents in a bid to make a strong showing on the world stage.
