Ghanata SHS Bursar Arrested Over Alleged Diversion of Student Food Supplies

By Praisebell Rosemond Larbi

The bursar of Ghanata Senior High School, Lamisi Sarah, has been arrested over allegations of diverting food supplies intended for students, in a development that has sparked concerns about accountability in the management of public school resources.

Confirming the arrest, the Member of Parliament for Shai-Osudoku and Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Ocloo, disclosed that credible reports had been received in recent weeks suggesting that portions of food provisions meant for students were being siphoned away.

Describing the situation as deeply troubling, the Minister emphasised that the alleged conduct represents a serious breach of trust and a violation of public duty, particularly given the critical role of such supplies in ensuring the welfare and nutrition of students in senior high schools.

“This is a disturbing development. These resources are meant to support students’ feeding and wellbeing, and any attempt to divert them undermines both policy and public confidence,” she indicated.

According to her, following the complaints, she engaged the constituency’s National Security apparatus to undertake a discreet investigation into the matter. The probe, she noted, was necessary to establish the veracity of the allegations before any action was taken.

She explained that during a visit to the constituency on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, findings from the investigation confirmed the alleged diversion, leading to the immediate apprehension of the bursar.

“I directed the officers to hand her over to the Police so that due process can take its full course under the law,” the Minister stated.

Sources close to the investigation indicate that authorities are working to determine the scale of the alleged diversion, including whether the act was carried out over an extended period and if other individuals may have been involved.

The incident has reignited public discourse around the management of logistics and supplies under Ghana’s secondary education system, particularly within the context of the Free SHS policy, where government absorbs the cost of feeding and other essentials.

Education sector stakeholders have in recent times called for tighter monitoring systems, improved auditing mechanisms, and stronger internal controls to prevent leakages and ensure that resources allocated for students are used for their intended purposes.

Meanwhile, investigations are ongoing, with officials expected to examine procurement records, stock levels, and distribution processes at the school as part of efforts to build a comprehensive case.

Authorities say further updates will be provided as the case progresses, while reaffirming their commitment to safeguarding public resources and upholding accountability within the education sector.
