SSNIT Rolls Out Loyalty Programme to Boost Pensioners’ Benefits

The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) is set to introduce a nationwide Loyalty Programme designed to provide pensioners with exclusive discounts and enhanced welfare benefits, as part of efforts to improve their quality of life beyond regular pension payments.
The initiative will offer SSNIT pensioners preferential rates at selected hotels, retail outlets, and other partner service providers across the country. It forms part of a broader strategy by the Trust to expand its support systems and make retirement more financially manageable for beneficiaries.
Speaking at an engagement with pensioners in Tamale, Director-General Kwesi Afreh Biney emphasised that the programme is a gesture of appreciation to pensioners for their years of contribution to the scheme.
“By simply being an SSNIT pensioner, you receive preferential rates. It is our way of saying thank you as we seek to improve the value proposition of the Scheme,” he stated.
Mr Afreh Biney noted that although the Loyalty Programme is not part of SSNIT’s core mandate, it reflects the institution’s commitment to going beyond statutory obligations to enhance the wellbeing of retirees. He added that discussions with partner institutions are at an advanced stage, positioning the programme for a smooth rollout nationwide.
Over the years, SSNIT pensioners have continued to benefit from regular monthly pension payments and healthcare support under the Pensioners Medical Scheme (PMS), implemented in collaboration with the National Pensioners Association (NPA). However, SSNIT believes additional interventions are necessary to address the evolving needs of pensioners, particularly in the face of rising living costs.
As part of its expanding welfare initiatives, the Trust also plans to introduce telemedicine services that will allow pensioners to consult healthcare professionals remotely via phone and digital platforms. The move is expected to improve access to medical care, especially for pensioners in remote areas, while reducing the cost and inconvenience associated with hospital visits.
Pensioners who attended the Tamale engagement, speaking through the regional leadership of the NPA, welcomed the new initiatives. They described the Loyalty Programme and telemedicine services as timely interventions that could significantly ease financial burdens, improve access to healthcare, and enhance overall living standards.
The rollout signals a shift in SSNIT’s approach, positioning the institution not only as a pension administrator but also as a provider of broader social support services aimed at ensuring dignity and comfort in retirement.
