The Bono East Regional Police Command has successfully returned a bag containing GHC85,000 to its rightful owner after it was found abandoned on the Techiman-Kumasi Highway.

Officers at the Police Snap Check Point discovered the bag on February 14, 2026, at approximately 4:20 a.m. The bag, which appeared to have fallen from a moving vehicle, was marked with the name “Ofori” and a phone number, according to a police statement.

Led by Inspector George Appiah, the officers retrieved the bag and handed it over to the regional command for verification. Police subsequently contacted the number on the bag and reached 53-year-old businessman Stephen Ofori from Ashtown, Kumasi, who confirmed ownership.

Ofori explained that the money, amounting to GH¢85,000, was being transported from GCB Bank, Wa, to Kumasi via a commercial vehicle. The cash was verified in his presence, and the entire sum was promptly returned to him.

The Bono East Regional Police Command praised the officers for their diligence and professionalism in handling the situation. They also expressed gratitude to members of the public who brought the bag to their attention, ensuring the safe return of the funds.

This incident highlights the commitment of the Bono East Police to safeguarding property and maintaining public trust, demonstrating the importance of vigilance and prompt action in recovering lost or misplaced valuables. The timely response prevented potential loss and reassured the community of law enforcement’s reliability.

Inspector Appiah encouraged citizens to report any suspicious or abandoned items immediately, noting that collaboration between the public and the police is key to maintaining security and protecting personal property on Ghana’s roads.

The successful recovery and return of the GH¢85,000 serves as an example of how swift police action and community cooperation can prevent financial losses and maintain public confidence in law enforcement.
