Creative Arts Ministry to Leverage GWR Beaded Bag for Tourism Boost

The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts has announced plans to collaborate with bead artist Juliana Gharbin and her creative team to promote Ghana’s cultural heritage following her recent Guinness World Record achievement.

Ms. Gharbin gained international recognition after creating the world’s largest beaded bag sculpture, designed in Ghana’s national colours and decorated with Adinkra symbols representing resilience, loyalty and excellence. The record-breaking artwork has attracted global attention, presenting what government officials describe as a strategic opportunity to enhance Ghana’s tourism appeal.

Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, said the achievement goes beyond personal success and reflects the creative potential within the country.

“This accomplishment offers Ghana a unique opportunity to strengthen our cultural diplomacy and position ourselves prominently within the global creative arts landscape,” she stated.

According to the Minister, the Ministry will work closely with Ms. Gharbin’s team to incorporate the sculpture into national tourism campaigns, exhibitions and cultural showcases both locally and internationally.

“Such collaborations are essential in transforming artistic excellence into viable tourism products capable of attracting visitors, creating jobs and generating revenue for the country,” she noted.

The Ministry is expected to pursue partnerships with tourism agencies, event organisers and cultural institutions to feature the sculpture at major festivals, heritage events and international expos. Officials believe showcasing the artwork on global platforms will not only promote Ghanaian craftsmanship but also stimulate interest in the country’s cultural traditions.

The initiative forms part of a broader government strategy to harness creative achievements as drivers of sustained tourism growth. Rather than treating record-breaking milestones as isolated celebrations, the Ministry intends to convert them into long-term economic and cultural assets.

Industry observers say the partnership signals a renewed commitment to supporting the creative arts sector while leveraging innovation and talent to advance Ghana’s global cultural footprint.
