Ethiopian Airlines Beats Revenue Target despite Global Challenges

Ethiopian Airlines has announced strong financial results for the first half of the 2025/26 fiscal year, reporting revenue of $4.4 billion. The figure is 2 percent higher than its target, showing resilience despite global challenges affecting the aviation industry.

The airline, Africa’s largest carrier, said it has managed to grow even while facing visa restrictions that reduced passenger travel, tariff disputes that hit cargo shipments, and conflicts in Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Speaking in Addis Ababa on Tuesday, the airline’s chief executive highlighted the company’s expansion strategy. He announced the launch of new routes to Porto in Portugal, Hanoi in Vietnam, and Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates during the first half of the fiscal year. These additions bring Ethiopian Airlines’ total international destinations to 145, strengthening its global network.

Passenger traffic remained strong, with 10.64 million people transported between July and December 2025. This represents an 11 percent increase compared to the same period last year. Cargo operations also performed well, with 451,000 tons of goods carried, surpassing the airline’s half year target by 4 percent.

Industry analysts say the results confirm Ethiopian Airlines’ position as a leading global carrier and a key player in connecting Africa to the rest of the world. The airline’s ability to expand routes and grow passenger and cargo volumes, even under difficult conditions, reflects its strong management and long term strategy.

Ethiopian Airlines has consistently invested in fleet expansion, modern aircraft, and improved customer service. The company says these efforts are helping it remain competitive in a challenging global aviation market.

Looking ahead, officials say the airline will continue to focus on expanding its international reach, strengthening cargo operations, and supporting Africa’s economic integration through reliable air transport.

With its latest results, Ethiopian Airlines has once again demonstrated its resilience and ambition to remain Africa’s leading airline and a major global player.
