Bekwai: Heavy downpour destroys classroom block at Denyaseman Catholic SHS

A heavy downpour on Sunday, February 10, 2026, has caused extensive damage to a classroom block at Denyaseman Catholic Senior High School (SHS) in Poano, the Bekwai Constituency of the Ashanti Region.
The storm, which lasted several hours, ripped off roofing sheets and caused the partial collapse of the structure, leaving parts of the school in ruins.
Residents of Denyaseman who witnessed the incident described the situation as heartbreaking. According to some community members, the rainfall was accompanied by strong winds that gradually weakened the building before it eventually gave way.
“The winds were very strong, and we could see the roof shaking before it finally came off,” one resident recounted.
Other residents said the damage has disrupted academic activities, as students and teachers have been forced to abandon the affected classrooms for safety reasons.
“The children cannot continue lessons there because it is too dangerous,” a concerned resident noted.
Furniture and learning materials were also not spared. Residents explained that desks, chairs, and other school property were destroyed under the debris.
“When we entered the compound, everything was scattered—tables, books, and roofing sheets all over the place,” another resident said.
According to reports, the school compound has been left littered with broken roofing sheets, blocks, and rubble, creating a scene of devastation.
Residents have raised concerns about the safety of other structures on campus, calling for urgent support to restore the damaged facilities.
