Black Princesses Will Be Mentally Ready for South Africa Clash – Coach

Head coach of Ghana’s U20 Women’s National Team, Charles Sampson, has expressed confidence in the mental strength of his players ahead of the decisive return leg against South Africa in the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers.

The Black Princesses were held to a 2–2 draw by South Africa at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, despite taking the lead on two occasions. Agnes Yeboah opened the scoring for Ghana in the first half before Linda Owusu Ansah restored the advantage after the break.

However, the visitors responded each time to force a draw, leaving the Black Princesses with the difficult task of securing a win away from home to advance to the next round of the qualifiers.

Speaking after the game, Coach Sampson acknowledged the disappointment but insisted his team has the psychological resilience to bounce back.

“We have a crop of players who are mentally strong, and psychologically we will also work on those aspects to get them tuned and ready for the next game to ensure we get what we are looking for,” Sampson said.

He added that the team is fully aware of the demands of a two-legged tie and is already focused on the challenge ahead.

“We know there are two games, home and away and that is why we are here. We are going to prepare and make sure we go to South Africa and push forward,” he noted.

The Black Princesses must defeat South Africa in the return fixture to progress to the final round of the qualifying series, where they could face either Zambia or Uganda.
