GES to Hold Supplementary Promotion Exam for Teachers

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced that it will conduct a supplementary promotion aptitude test for teachers who could not take part in the 2025 examination. The Service says the move is to ensure fairness and give all qualified teachers an equal chance to go through the promotion process.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, February 5, GES explained that some teachers missed last year’s exam due to circumstances beyond their control. The supplementary test will therefore allow them to participate. The exam is scheduled for Tuesday, February 17, and will begin at 9:00 a.m. sharp.
To make the exercise smooth and accessible, GES has divided the country into four zones, with each zone assigned a centre. Teachers from the Ahafo, Ashanti, Bono and Bono East Regions will write the exam at Wesley College of Education in Kumasi. Candidates from the Central, Western and Western North Regions will take the test at the National Language Training Institute, University of Cape Coast.
Teachers from the Eastern, Greater Accra, Oti and Volta Regions have been assigned to the Accra College of Education, while those from the North East, Northern, Savannah, Upper East and Upper West Regions will sit the exam at the Tamale College of Education.
GES also announced that index numbers for candidates will be sent directly to them via text message by Monday, February 9. The Service has advised all candidates to ensure their contact details are accurate and active so they do not miss important information.
The supplementary exam comes after the main promotion aptitude test held in 2025. Promotion exams are an important part of the teaching profession in Ghana, as they allow teachers to move up in rank. Higher ranks come with improved salaries, responsibilities, and recognition. By organising this supplementary test, GES is making sure that no teacher is left behind because of unavoidable circumstances.
Officials say the Service is committed to transparency and fairness in the promotion process. They believe that giving teachers equal opportunities will motivate them and improve education delivery across the country.
The Management of GES has wished all candidates success as they prepare for the upcoming examination, urging them to take the process seriously and give their best effort.
