Bono Regional Minister Signs Performance Agreements to Boost Local Governance
The Bono Regional Minister, Joseph Addae Akwaboa, has entered into performance agreements with Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), Coordinating Directors and Human Resource Managers as part of measures to deepen decentralisation and enhance effective governance across the region.
The signing ceremony, held on Friday, January 30, 2026, at the Bono Regional Coordinating Council, officially ushered in the 2026 performance appraisal cycle for all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the region.
Speaking at the event, Mr Akwaboa underscored the importance of close cooperation between national and regional institutions, noting that the performance contracts serve as key instruments for strengthening professionalism, accountability, teamwork and sound financial management at the local government level.
He called on MMDCEs and departmental heads to exercise discipline and foster strong working relationships in line with President John Dramani Mahama’s commitment to transparency, accountability and results-driven governance.
Representing the Local Government Service Council, Christopher Dapaah emphasised the role of citizen participation and accountability in local administration, while acknowledging ongoing challenges confronting assemblies, particularly in staffing and resource allocation.
To address concerns about favoritism in postings, Mr Dapaah revealed that the Council is developing a new recruitment portal aimed at ensuring fairness and transparency in staff placement nationwide.
He also announced plans for Council members to undertake district-level engagements to interact with local stakeholders and gain deeper insight into development challenges. According to him, the 15-member Council will conduct individual visits to districts at scheduled intervals, with advance notice communicated through the Regional Minister to facilitate smooth coordination.
Mr Dapaah explained that the engagements are intended to gather first-hand information on local needs and promote collaborative efforts with district authorities to bridge development gaps.
Meanwhile, the Dean of Bono MMDCEs and Municipal Chief Executive for Sunyani, Vincent Antwi Agyei, reaffirmed the resolve of MMDCEs in the region to support the President’s development agenda. He assured that assemblies will comply strictly with established rules and procedures to ensure efficient administration and drive accelerated development throughout the Bono Region.
