I Grew Up in a Strict Home – Nhoya

By Esther Korantemaa Offei

Digital marketer and content creator Nhoya Ruthlyn has revealed that she grew up in a strict household where education was prioritised, despite her lively and outspoken personality on social media.

Speaking in an interview on Highway 10.19 on ZED FM, Ruthlyn said her father was particularly strict about education and expected his children to perform well in school.

“I’m from a strict background. My dad was the ‘marry your books and give birth to success’ type of guy,” she said.

Ruthlyn said she performed well academically during her early school years and regularly found herself among the top pupils.

“From first to fifth, I was always part of the top,” she said.

She said her social media personality has, however, led some people to develop a different perception of her upbringing.

“People think I’m a party girl because of how loud I am, but I’m from a very strict background. Until you get close to me, you wouldn’t know,” Ruthlyn said.

Ruthlyn also revealed that her decision to become a content creator was not initially planned, saying it started after she quit her job last year.

She said she resigned because her salary was not enough to cover her expenses.

“I was spending what I was not making. I was like, ‘Bruh, I’m going to quit.’ So I quit, and I was in the house doing nothing,” she said.

While at home, Ruthlyn said boredom inspired her to share a personal story on social media, which unexpectedly attracted significant attention.

“It started out of boredom,” she said. “I decided to share my story times on social media, and people found it amusing. It blew up everywhere.”

She said TikTok was the first platform she used to share her content before moving to Instagram and other platforms.

Ruthlyn said the response from the public surprised her and encouraged her to remain consistent with her content.

“I was so surprised by the support I had. Some people don’t like me, but the support is more than the haters,” she said.

She attributed her growing popularity to being authentic and relatable, saying people are more likely to connect with someone who remains true to themselves.

“Being yourself elevates you because when you are yourself, a lot of people can relate with that,” Ruthlyn said.

She added that she wants to maintain a genuine relationship with her audience rather than create an image simply to please people.

“I just want to be relatable so that everybody can relate to me. That is me,” she said.
