First Sky Group to Complete 50MW Solar Power Project by March

Founder and Executive Chairman of the First Sky Group, Mr. Eric Seddy Kutortse, has announced that the company will, by the end of March this year, complete a 50-megawatt (MW) solar photovoltaic (PV) power station in Yendi, in the Northern Region, to supply power to the national grid.

Speaking at the Group’s 23rd Annual Thanksgiving Service, Mr. Kutortse said the project reflects the company’s long-term vision of sustainable growth.

“As a company, our focus is to build a future that is not only prosperous but sustainable. That is why First Sky Energy will, by the end of March this year, complete a 50MW PV power station to generate and supply power to the national grid,” he said.

The solar project, which covers about 140 hectares of land at Yendi, is expected to become a major milestone in Ghana’s renewable energy sector.

Mr. Kutortse described the initiative as a strong statement of confidence in local enterprise, noting that it is fully Ghanaian-owned.

“This project represents confidence in Ghanaian entrepreneurship and ownership. It is the first fully Ghanaian-owned utility-scale solar project of its kind and the second-largest solar installation in the country,” he stated.

He explained that the project complements the 55MW solar facility being undertaken by the Ghana Green Power Authority and aligns with global and national development priorities.

“The Yendi Solar PV Project aligns directly with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly affordable and clean energy, decent work and economic growth, and climate action,” Mr. Kutortse said.

According to him, the project also supports the government’s agenda to deepen Ghana’s transition to renewable energy.

“This initiative supports the national agenda to accelerate Ghana’s green energy transition, strengthen energy security, and position our country as a regional leader in renewable energy and sustainable development,” he added.

The executive chairman also stressed the project’s economic impact, especially for communities in the Northern Region, noting that economic growth must be inclusive.

“At full implementation, the project is expected to create over 300 additional jobs, providing opportunities particularly for communities in the Northern Region,” he noted.

He further revealed that over the past eight years, the First Sky Group has invested more than GH¢51 million in providing free dialysis services to patients at the Ghana Polytechnic University.

“We are deeply grateful to His Excellency and the Cabinet for the Mahama Care initiative, which has now absorbed dialysis costs nationwide,” he said.

Mr. Kutortse announced that the Group has now shifted its focus to kidney transplant support.

“We have redirected our support towards giving free kidney transplant services to Ghanaians. Last year alone, the First Sky Group fully sponsored six successful kidney transplants in Ghana,” he disclosed.

He said the impact of these interventions goes beyond statistics.

“These are lives restored, families reunited, and homes reclaimed,” he added.

Mr. Kutortse praised the dedication of the group’s staff over the years, urging them to remain united and committed to excellence.

“This 23rd anniversary is your legacy. You carried this mission when it was uncertain, sustained it when it was difficult, and protected it when it was desperate,” he stressed.
