Lights stabilise in Sunyani as VRA, NEDCo fix transformer faults; brief planned outage announced
Power supply to the Sunyani Municipality has largely been restored after the Volta River Authority (VRA) and the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) successfully resolved technical challenges affecting key transformers in the area.
In a statement issued by VRA–NEDCo in the Sunyani Area, the power utilities confirmed that the transformer faults which triggered days of erratic electricity supply have now been fixed, bringing relief to residents and businesses who endured intermittent outages.
“The transformer challenge that disrupted power supply within the Sunyani enclave has been successfully resolved,” the statement said, adding that the emergency power rationing introduced to manage the shortfall has consequently been ended.
However, the company announced a planned power outage today between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. to allow engineers to conduct critical tests on the repaired transformers and ensure system stability.
According to VRA–NEDCo, the planned outage will affect a wide stretch of communities, including Bechem in the Tano North Municipality of the Ahafo Region, Tepa in the Ashanti Region, and parts of the Sunyani Area.
The utility assured customers that the temporary interruption is a precautionary measure aimed at preventing future disruptions and strengthening the reliability of power supply across the affected zones.
Residents are therefore encouraged to plan ahead during the testing period, as full and stable power supply is expected to resume immediately after the exercise.
The development marks a significant relief for Sunyani and surrounding communities, where the recent power challenges had disrupted economic activities, healthcare services, and daily life.
