Relegation-bound but resolute Wolves hold Newcastle to goalless draw

Wolverhampton Wanderers displayed grit, organisation and renewed belief as they held Newcastle United to a hard-fought 0–0 draw at Molineux, a result that underlined their determination to fight for Premier League survival.

Despite Newcastle enjoying long spells of possession, Wolves stood firm defensively and limited Eddie Howe’s side to few clear-cut chances on an afternoon that lacked goals but not intensity. The visitors pushed late on, with Bruno Guimarães twice getting sights of goal in stoppage time. One effort drifted wide, while another penalty appeal was dismissed by VAR after the midfielder went down in the box, bringing Newcastle’s final surge to an end.

Wolves, still hovering just above the relegation zone, looked far more compact and disciplined than earlier in the season. Yerson Mosquera was outstanding at the back, repeatedly snuffing out danger, while goalkeeper José Sá remained calm and assured whenever called upon.

The hosts also posed a threat on the counter in the first half. Tolu Arokodare worked tirelessly up front, Mateus Mané’s direct running lifted the home crowd, and Hugo Bueno went closest before the break, cutting inside and firing narrowly wide after a promising spell.

Newcastle raised the tempo after the interval and introduced fresh legs, including Wissa and Anthony Gordon, but Wolves continued to frustrate them. Sá produced his finest moment in the 85th minute with an excellent double save to deny Guimarães and Joelinton from close range.

As the game grew scrappy late on, Wolves refused to buckle, seeing out six minutes of added time to secure a point that felt almost like a victory. For the hosts, it extends their unbeaten run and keeps hope alive in the survival fight, while Newcastle will rue another afternoon where possession failed to deliver goals.

At full-time, it ended 0–0 — a result that may yet prove priceless for Wolves.
