Ghana National Council Chicago Inaugurates New Executives

The Ghana National Council (GNC) in Chicago has inaugurated its newly elected executive leadership, marking the beginning of a new administration led by President Effah Ameyaw. The formal swearing in ceremony, held on Sunday, January 4, brought together affiliate leaders, elders, council members, community stakeholders, and guests, reflecting broad support for the Council and confidence in its new leadership.
The event also provided an opportunity to honour outgoing president Mr. Kasim and his executive team for their dedicated service and contributions to the organisation’s growth and stability. Their stewardship was recognised as laying a strong foundation for the new administration to build upon.
In his inaugural address, President Ameyaw outlined the strategic pillars of his administration, focusing on continuity, sustainability, and institutional advancement. He highlighted constitutional, electoral, and chieftaincy reforms as key priorities aimed at strengthening governance structures while upholding transparency, accountability, and respect for cultural traditions.
The new leadership emphasised its commitment to inclusive and sustainable community development. Initiatives will focus on fostering social cohesion, economic empowerment, and cultural preservation. Health, safety, and overall community welfare were identified as essential areas, underscoring the belief that a strong community begins with the well being of its people.
Youth empowerment and human resource development also featured prominently in the president’s vision. The Council pledged to expand mentorship, educational opportunities, and leadership development programmes to prepare young people and students for active civic engagement and future leadership roles.
A major priority announced during the ceremony is the acquisition of Ghana House, envisioned as a permanent home and cultural hub for the Ghanaian community in Chicago. The proposed centre will serve as a venue for meetings, cultural events, educational programming, and community engagement.
To advance these initiatives, the Council reaffirmed its commitment to establishing sustainable funding sources that guarantee long term financial stability and impact. The administration also encouraged broader community participation, stressing open communication, collaboration, and active involvement from all members of the Ghanaian community in Chicago.
As the new executive team begins its term, the Ghana National Council Chicago looks forward to a period defined by integrity, service, inclusiveness, and collective progress.
