A fuel tanker with registration number GN – 8284-23 has been involved in a serious accident on the Kumasi highway at Bereku in the early hours of today, sparking a dangerous situation as large numbers of people rush to scoop spilled fuel.
The accident occurred at about 4:00 a.m., when the tanker, believed to be transporting petroleum products, overturned along the stretch. The impact caused fuel to spill onto the roadway and nearby surroundings.
The scene remains crowded, with many people both men and women, seen openly fetching the fuel into gallons and other containers. Despite the strong smell of fuel and the obvious risk of fire or explosion, those present appear largely undeterred, raising serious safety concerns.
Traffic on the highway has been disrupted, with vehicles slowing down as curious onlookers gather around the accident site. There is yet to be a strong security or emergency presence to cordon off the area and control the crowd.
It is still unclear what caused the accident and the driver and other persons sustained injuries.
