Police Foil Robbery, 3 Suspects Killed

The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has stopped a planned highway robbery on the Anwiankwanta–Obuasi Highway. Three suspected armed robbers were shot dead during the operation on December 24, 2025.
The suspects, named as Seidu Issah, Musah Yakubu, and Yahaya Munkaila, also known as Tijani, were said to have gathered in a bush between Anwiankwanta and Jacobu junction to carry out their attack. Police officers met the gang at the scene. The suspects opened fire, and the police returned fire, killing three of them. Two other suspects managed to escape.
Police recovered several weapons from the scene, including two pump-action guns loaded with ammunition, one pistol, twenty-five live cartridges, and six spent cartridges. The suspects were rushed to the Bekwai Municipal Hospital but were pronounced dead on arrival. Their bodies have since been deposited at the hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.
Investigations show that the suspects were linked to several robberies in the Ashanti Region. These include the Jacobu airport robbery on November 3, 2025, which led to the death of a security man, multiple highway robberies along the Manso stretch, the Antoakrom robbery, the Abofour forest robbery near Offinso, and the attack on a gold buyer at Anwiankwanta on December 8, 2025.
In a follow-up operation on December 26, 2025, police searched a palm plantation near Manso Nkwanta, a place believed to be used by the suspects to hide weapons. Officers recovered one AK47 assault rifle, one MG3 rifle, another pump-action gun, and a single-barreled gun, together with ammunition and personal items.
The police say they are working hard to trace the sources of the weapons and to arrest the accomplices who are still on the run. The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has assured the public that they will continue to fight armed robbery and protect lives and property along the highways.
