Funke Akindele Makes Nollywood History With ₦1 Billion Box Office Hat-Trick

Nollywood has hit a major commercial milestone as Funke Akindele records an unprecedented ₦1 billion box office hat-trick, further solidifying her status as the most bankable producer in the Nigerian film industry.

With verified earnings now exceeding ₦1.1 billion, Akindele’s latest film has become one of the highest-grossing Nigerian movies of all time. The achievement officially positions her as Nollywood’s highest-grossing producer ever, a feat driven by consistent audience appeal and strategic storytelling.

The film’s success is notable not just for its numbers but for its pace. It became the fastest film in West Africa to cross the ₦1 billion mark, reaching the milestone in just 19 days and highlighting the growing demand for premium local cinema.

On Boxing Day, the movie set another industry record after grossing ₦129.5 million in a single day, the highest one-day earnings in Nollywood history. It has also been confirmed as the highest-grossing theatrical release of 2025, outperforming competitors in a crowded market.

Most significantly, Akindele has become the first filmmaker in Nollywood to deliver three consecutive ₦1 billion-grossing films within one calendar year. She is also the only director and producer to cross the ₦1 billion mark at the Nigerian box office three separate times.

Distributed by FilmOne Entertainment and backed by FAAN (Future Africa Audience Network), the film’s performance reflects the impact of strong distribution strategies, targeted marketing and improving cinema infrastructure across Nigeria and West Africa.

As Nollywood continues to expand its global footprint, Funke Akindele’s record-breaking run stands as more than a box office victory, it marks a cultural shift, signaling a new era where African stories are not only celebrated but commercially dominant.
