Wiyaala Reveals Four-Year Struggle Before Winning Her First Reality Show

Ghanaian singer and international performer Wiyaala has shed light on the long and challenging journey that led to her first victory in a music reality contest, revealing that it took her four years of persistence, rejection and personal growth to achieve the milestone.

Speaking in an interview on TV3, the award-winning artiste recalled how she auditioned for multiple reality shows before finally emerging victorious. According to her, the road to success was anything but easy, as each attempt came with its own set of setbacks and lessons that shaped her craft.

Wiyaala recounted her early experiences with the “Stars of the Future” reality show, which she auditioned for twice. Her first attempt ended in outright rejection, while the second brought a glimmer of hope, as judges acknowledged her potential but advised her to return at a later time. Despite the disappointment, she said the feedback pushed her to keep improving.

Her third attempt at a contest happened during her admission to Takoradi Polytechnic, a development that placed her closer to the competition venue. That year, she advanced to the final four contestants but still fell short of claiming the top prize. The near-win, she explained, did not deter her; instead, it strengthened her resolve.

Wiyaala’s breakthrough finally came in her fourth year of trying, when she auditioned for Vodafone Icons and won the competition. She credited the victory to years of criticism, feedback and experience gathered from earlier attempts.

Reflecting on her journey, Wiyaala encouraged young talents to embrace perseverance, stressing that success often requires resilience and patience. “If you really want to do something, you need to keep pushing. Every work of life takes years, and you have to grow,” she said.
