IP is your business’s gold, guard it early — Lawyer tells entrepreneurs

Legal practitioner Kwasi Gyamfi Boadu is urging businesses to secure their intellectual property (IP) early, warning that failure to do so could result in losing control of their brand.
Speaking during Business Breakfast on Zed FM on Monday, June 2, 2025, Mr. Boadu said many businesses overlook IP registration in their early stages and later suffer serious consequences, including legal disputes and brand loss.
“It’s critical that entrepreneurs and business owners take intellectual property seriously from the start. Neglecting this step can lead to unnecessary court cases and the painful loss of your brand,” he cautioned.
The Legal practitioner explained that IP, such as trademarks, patents, copyrights, and trade secrets, helps protect a company’s identity, products, and innovations. Yet, many startups and small businesses in Ghana and beyond delay or ignore registering their IP.
Mr. Boadu therefore encouraged business owners to act early, stressing that the registration process is straightforward and affordable.
“In today’s competitive market, IP is one of your most valuable assets. Secure it early to protect your investment,” he advised.
