GES Launches Probe Into Assault on Kade SHTS Teacher; Vows Strict Sanctions

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has initiated a full-scale investigation into the assault of a teacher at Kade Senior High Technical School after a video of the incident sparked widespread public outrage on social media. The teacher, Mr. Michael Quayson, was attacked by some past students of the school, prompting swift intervention from GES Management.

According to a preliminary report requested by the Service, the incident occurred on 5th October 2025. The former students allegedly assaulted Mr. Quayson because they were displeased with his strict supervision during the invigilation of the Christian Religious Studies (CRS) examination in the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). Despite the gravity of the assault, the matter was not reported immediately to school authorities or to GES Management. It only came to their attention after the video began circulating widely online.

GES has described the attack as “unacceptable, unlawful, and a direct affront to the dignity of the teaching profession.” Management emphasised that such acts undermine discipline within the educational system and threaten the integrity of national examinations. It assured the public that the perpetrators will face appropriate sanctions as prescribed by the law and existing GES regulations.

The Service further reiterated its unwavering support for teachers across the country, noting that educators must feel safe and respected as they carry out their duties, particularly in enforcing discipline and safeguarding examination standards.

In the statement, GES urged all students to uphold discipline, respect authority, and adhere to established guidelines within the school environment. Management stressed that maintaining a culture of respect is essential to creating a safe and effective atmosphere for teaching and learning. GES says investigations are ongoing and has assured stakeholders that justice will be served to reinforce order and protect the teaching profession.
