Asantehene to Present Bawku Mediation Report to Prez. Mahama on Dec. 16

By Praisebell Rosemond Larbi

President John Dramani Mahama will on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, receive the much-anticipated final report and recommendations on the Bawku conflict mediation from the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. The decisive handover, scheduled for 4:00 p.m. at the Presidency, marks a significant milestone in the national effort to restore lasting peace to the troubled area.

This development was announced in a statement issued on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, by the Minister of Government Communication, Felix Kwakye Ofosu. According to the statement, the submission of the report follows months of painstaking consultations, dialogue sessions, and expert engagements facilitated by the Asantehene as part of his crucial role in the broader national reconciliation and peacebuilding process.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who was appointed by President Mahama earlier this year to lead the mediation process, has been widely commended for bringing his internationally recognised conflict-resolution expertise and moral authority to bear on the longstanding tensions in Bawku. His involvement has renewed national optimism regarding the prospects for sustainable peace in the area, which has grappled with intermittent violence, social fragmentation, and economic disruption for years.

Sources familiar with the process indicate that the final report captures key findings, peacebuilding proposals, and actionable recommendations intended to guide the next phase of government intervention. Stakeholders expect the document to address critical issues such as security coordination, community reconciliation, chieftaincy-related tensions, social cohesion, and long-term development planning for the Bawku enclave.

Government officials have hinted that the report will play a central role in shaping a new roadmap for peace, balancing traditional authority engagement, modern state-level mediation, and inter-community dialogue. The Presidency is expected to review the report immediately and initiate further discussions with relevant agencies, traditional leaders, and political actors.

The presentation on December 16 is viewed as a pivotal moment in the search for a lasting solution. For many residents and observers, the conclusion of the Asantehene’s mediation marks the beginning of what they hope will be a more stable, secure, and unified Bawku, backed by strong government commitment and structured community participation.
