Nashville SC signs Ghanaian defender Maxwell Woledzi to a long-term deal

Ghanaian centre-back Maxwell Woledzi has joined Major League Soccer side Nashville SC from Norwegian top-flight club Fredrikstad FK on a contract through 2028, with an option for 2029. Pending receipt of his International Transfer Certificate and P-1 Visa, Woledzi will occupy an international roster slot.
Nashville SC President of Soccer Operations and General Manager Mike Jacobs praised Woledzi as a “tremendous player and leader” who will strengthen the club heading into the 2026 campaign.
A standout performer for Fredrikstad since 2023, Woledzi made 88 appearances across all competitions, featuring in the Eliteserien, NM Cup, and European qualifiers, including Conference League matches against Crystal Palace. He played 29 league matches in the 2024 season, helping Fredrikstad win the Norwegian Cup title and earning a place in the Eliteserien Team of the Year. In 2025, he was named Fredrikstad’s Player of the Year.
Woledzi’s journey began at Right to Dream Academy in Ghana, progressing to FC Nordsjaelland in Denmark and Vitória Guimaraes SC B in Portugal. He founded the Maxwell Woledzi Foundation and The Hijab Project in Nima, Ghana, to support youth participation in sports, especially girls.
