The Group Chief Executive Officer of FirstBank, Olusegun Alebiosu, has pledged the bank’s continued support for Ghana’s economic development, affirming its commitment to serve as a long-term partner in national growth initiatives.
Mr. Alebiosu made the declaration during a courtesy visit to the Presidency, where he met President John Dramani Mahama alongside senior executives of the bank. He emphasised FirstBank’s focus on contributing to strategic sectors that are pivotal to Ghana’s development, including infrastructure, agriculture, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and youth-led businesses.
“We are committed to supporting the government’s efforts to accelerate growth and create sustainable opportunities across key sectors,” Mr. Alebiosu said. “Our aim is to be more than a financial institution, we want to be a reliable partner in development that works with government, communities, and businesses to build long-term prosperity.”
President Mahama welcomed the commitment, highlighting key government programs that align with the bank’s focus areas. These include the Big Push infrastructure plan, which seeks to modernise and expand critical national infrastructure, the development of industrial parks to enhance manufacturing capacity, and initiatives to strengthen agriculture while promoting the 24-Hour Economy.
During discussions, Mr. Alebiosu highlighted FirstBank’s support for energy projects and rural industrialisation, noting their potential to generate employment, stimulate local manufacturing, and foster sustainable economic growth. He underscored the importance of financing solutions that are tailored to the unique needs of SMEs and youth entrepreneurs, a segment of the economy that is increasingly driving innovation and productivity.
The bank’s executives also shared insights on potential areas of collaboration with government agencies and other stakeholders to support national development goals, particularly in sectors that require long-term investment and technical support.
President Mahama expressed appreciation for the private sector’s proactive role in nation-building and reiterated the administration’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for businesses to thrive. He encouraged financial institutions to continue leveraging their resources and expertise to complement government initiatives and ensure inclusive growth.
The visit underscores the growing partnership between Ghana’s financial institutions and the government, with banks like FirstBank playing an active role in driving investment, job creation, and sustainable development across the country.
