Gloria Sarfo Demands Fair Pay and Dignity for Veteran Actors

Ghanaian actress Gloria Sarfo has appealed to movie producers to improve the welfare and compensation of veteran actors, insisting that many have been unfairly neglected despite their contributions to the industry.
In an interview on Neat FM, Gloria Sarfo praised the pioneering role of older actors, noting that they worked without signing bonuses, appearance fees or the substantial payments younger actors receive today. She added that many veterans now depend on their children because their careers never provided financial security.
Sarfo criticised the dwindling opportunities offered to veteran actors, comparing the situation to Nigeria, where older performers continue to be respected and regularly featured in films.
She described the neglect of Ghanaian veterans as disheartening, saying, “When a young actor meets a veteran, they bow. It’s unfair that we no longer cast them.”
The actress warned that the emotional and financial strain placed on veterans is affecting the growth of the industry. She said their frustration and despair are contributing to the sector’s stagnation.
Sarfo urged producers to treat veteran actors with dignity by paying them fairly, ensuring their comfort on set, and providing transportation when needed. “They should never reach a point where they beg for money. They committed no crime by being actors,” she stressed.
