DOVVSU partners with MTN for 16 Days of gender based activism

The Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit of the Ghana Police Service, DOVVSU, says it is proud to partner MTN Ghana for the 2025 edition of the “16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.”

The campaign, launched by MTN Ghana, focuses on raising awareness and fighting all forms of violence against women and girls, especially online. This year’s theme is “Unite to End Digital Violence Against All Women and Girls.”

Speaking at the launch, the Director of DOVVSU, ACP Owusuaa Kyeremeh, expressed her excitement to represent the unit at the ceremony. She said DOVVSU is happy to join MTN Ghana and other partners to support the global United Nations campaign aimed at protecting women and girls from abuse.

ACP Kyeremeh explained that digital violence has become a major concern in Ghana and around the world. She said many women and young girls face harassment, bullying, threats, and other harmful behaviours online, which can affect their mental health, safety, and confidence. She warned that as more people use digital platforms, the risk of online abuse continues to grow, making it important for institutions to work together to protect the vulnerable.

She noted that the partnership between DOVVSU and MTN Ghana will help strengthen public education on digital safety and also encourage victims to report cases quickly. ACP Kyeremeh stressed that many victims do not report online abuse because they do not know where to seek help or fear being judged. She said the campaign will address this challenge by giving clear information on how to report cases and how DOVVSU can support survivors.

She added that the 16-day campaign will involve community engagement, media education, and outreach activities aimed at helping parents, teachers, young people, and the general public understand the dangers of digital violence. According to her, protecting women and girls online should not be left to government institutions alone, and this is why partnerships with private companies like MTN Ghana are very important.

ACP Kyeremeh encouraged the public to join the campaign, report cases of digital abuse, and help create safer online spaces for everyone. She said DOVVSU remains committed to protecting victims of violence and working with all partners to end gender-based abuse in Ghana. The 16 Days of Activism campaign will run nationwide, with a focus on education, awareness, reporting, and digital safety for women and girls.
