Ministry of Education Delivers Over 3,000 Desks to Labone SHS
The Ministry of Education has announced the successful delivery of more than 3,000 mono desks to Labone Senior High School in Accra, following reports of severe furniture shortages that left many newly admitted Form One students sitting on the floor or relying on dining hall benches during lessons.
In a statement released on Monday, November 24, 2025, the Ministry confirmed that Labone SHS had formally requested 3,282 mono desks through the Ghana Education Service (GES). The request was subsequently approved by the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund), which allocated the full quantity. According to the Ministry, delivery was scheduled to be completed by the close of the same day, ensuring immediate relief for the affected students.
This intervention forms part of a broader nationwide initiative by the Ministry of Education to procure 200,000 mono desks for 100 senior high schools across the country. The programme is designed to support schools transitioning from the double-track system to the single-track model, a reform aimed at improving efficiency and learning outcomes. By addressing the persistent furniture gaps in second-cycle institutions, the government hopes to create a more sustainable and equitable learning environment.
The Ministry emphasized that the provision of adequate infrastructure remains central to its mission of ensuring that every student in Ghana has access to quality education in a safe and supportive setting. It reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with GES, GETFund, and other stakeholders to deliver resources that enhance teaching and learning nationwide.
The delivery of desks to Labone SHS is expected to significantly improve classroom conditions, allowing students to focus on their studies without the discomfort and distraction of inadequate seating.
