Ghana Stock Market starts week strong

The stock market started the week on a strong note, buoyed by advances in banking and oil stocks that lifted the overall market indices and reinforced investor confidence.
At the close of trading on Monday, October 27, 2025, the Ghana Stock Exchange Composite Index (GSE-CI) rose by 11.88 points to close at 8,379.00, while the Financial Stocks Index gained 15.71 points to settle at 4,113.81.
The market’s strong start adds to its impressive year-to-date performance of more than 70 per cent growth, underscoring renewed optimism about Ghana’s economic outlook and corporate performance.
Trading activity was relatively strong, with a total of 551,022 shares changing hands at a value of approximately GHS1.88 million. This pushed the overall market capitalisation to nearly GHS166.67 billion, reflecting sustained interest from both institutional and retail investors.
Societe Generale Ghana (SOGEGH) topped the gainers’ chart, climbing 28 pesewas to close at GHS3.08, driven by renewed buying interest from investors positioning for third-quarter results. Standard Chartered Bank (SCB) also advanced 10 pesewas to GHS29.10, while Ghana Oil Company (GOIL), Ecobank Ghana (EGH), GCB Bank, and Enterprise Group Limited (EGL) all recorded modest gains to support the market’s upward movement.
On the downside, CalBank (CAL) was the only stock to post a decline, losing 8 pesewas to close at GHS0.72.
Meanwhile, MTN Ghana (MTNGH) remained the most actively traded stock of the session, maintaining its price at GHS4.25. The telecom giant accounted for the bulk of the day’s trading activity, with 275,584 shares valued at about GHS1.17 million exchanged.
According to analysts, the upbeat performance to improving investor sentiment, supported by stronger corporate earnings, macroeconomic stability, and declining inflation.
“The rally in financial and energy stocks indicates renewed confidence in the fundamentals of the economy and the resilience of listed companies,” one analyst noted.
