Nunoo Mensah believes baton change problem will be addressed before 2024 Olympics

President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), Ben Nunoo Mensah, expresses confidence in Ghana’s Men’s 4×100 Relay Team to enhance their baton change phase leading up to the 2024 Olympic Games.

In an interview with Citi Sports following the team’s qualification to the Paris Olympics by winning Heat 2 at the World Relays Championship in the Bahamas, Mr Mensah shared his optimism.

Despite encountering no issues with the baton change on Day Two of the World Relays in the Bahamas, Ghana initially missed securing its place in the upcoming Olympics after placing second in its race at the Penn Relays due to a delayed baton change.

During Day One of the World Relays, Ghana faced a setback when they dropped the baton, resulting in their inability to finish the race.

This occurred after Ghana finished second at the African Games due to yet another delayed baton change.

Nevertheless, Mr Mensah believes the team will address this issue diligently, emphasizing their commitment to improvement.

“I am sure that their coaches have seen that weakness in our team and I’m sure they will be working on that. It’s always been a problem not only for this current team but for a while,” he said.

“There must be something and I’m sure that their coaches are up to the task and they should be working on that before we show up at the Olympics.”

The 2024 Olympics are scheduled to commence on July 26 and conclude on August 11.
