Cape Coast Teaching Hospital rolls out new state-owned E-Health System

By Maame Efua Kwaduah

The Health Minister, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has revealed that the Ghana Health Information Management System (GHIMS) is now fully operational at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital (CCTH), signalling the start of a government-owned digital records transformation.

He made this known during a tour of the facility, where he checked essential units and interacted with staff and hospital leadership.

He explained that the introduction of GHIMS is part of the government’s broader plan to establish a permanent, state-owned electronic health platform that safeguards patient information and enhances efficient healthcare delivery.

Mr. Akandoh noted that recent interruptions in digital health services nationwide have highlighted the need for government ownership of both the software and hardware that power electronic medical records.

According to him, this approach will guarantee system reliability, ensure the protection of patient data, and create room for seamless integration with future service providers.
