Ghana Assures Global Market of Quality Raw Cashew Nuts for 2025/2026 Season

The Chief Executive Officer of the Tree Crops Development Authority (TCDA), Dr. Andrews Osei Okrah, has dismissed recent claims suggesting poor quality of Ghana’s Raw Cashew Nuts (RCN).

Speaking at a panel discussion during the 12th World Cashew Conference in Dubai, he assured the global cashew market that Ghana’s RCN for the 2025/2026 trading season are of very good quality, declaring the season officially open.

Dr. Osei Okrah said both quantity and quality remain strong, with the season expected to record a high Kernel Outturn Ratio (KOR), consistent with previous years.

He noted that Ghana’s RCN continue to meet global market standards, reinforcing the country’s reputation as a reliable supplier.

He emphasized that Ghana operates a structured and traceable cashew supply chain, underpinned by a regulatory framework enforced by the TCDA.

Dr. Osei Okrah urged exporters and buyers to transact only with registered and licensed operators, explaining that doing so enables the Authority to intervene effectively and resolve operational or contractual challenges.

“When business is conducted within the regulated framework, the TCDA is better positioned to support stakeholders and protect the integrity of Ghana’s cashew industry,” he said.

Under his leadership, the TCDA has undertaken strategic reforms to promote sustainability, transparency, and global competitiveness in the sector. This includes an extensive stakeholder engagement process that culminated in the official announcement and validation of the cashew price, agreed upon jointly by stakeholders and value chain actors.

To strengthen compliance, the TCDA recently commissioned its first cohort of Compliance and Enforcement Officers.

These officers will work with security agencies and District Assemblies to enforce regulations, curb illegal trading, prevent smuggling and protect farmers and licensed operators.

“The commissioning of our Compliance and Enforcement Officers ensures that standards are upheld across the cashew value chain and boosts investor confidence,” Dr. Osei Okrah added, emphasizing the Authority’s commitment to quality, transparency and market integrity.
