Music Keeps Me Standing Strong at 60-Fred Kyei Mensah

Renowned sound producer Fred Kyei Mensah insists that retirement is not in his plans.
In an interview with Kafui Dei, he revealed that music remains his emotional and financial pillar despite enduring significant personal losses.
“There’s no retirement for me,” Fred said with a smile. “Whenever I feel low, I sit at my keyboard and play. Life goes on, and music keeps me alive.”
Despite facing industry challenges and betrayals from those he once helped, his passion for sound creation remains unshaken. “Some mornings, I find myself scrolling through my phone, wondering who I can call for help,” he admitted. “It’s humbling, but music keeps me grounded. It’s the one thing that has never abandoned me.”
Known affectionately as Fredyma, he credits his survival and success to the generosity of those who supported him during difficult times. “All the cars I own now were gifts,” he shared. “I never bought one. Music opened those doors for me.”
For Fred, music is far more than a career; it is a divine calling that continually fuels his hope and resilience.
