Black Stars call‑up would be a dream come true – Cletus Nombil

Putting on the national‑team shirt means far more than just ninety minutes of action on the field. For seasoned professionals, it’s a sincere way to give back to the nation that helped forge their careers. The same holds true for Zlin FC’s midfield architect, Cletus Nombil.
The 25‑year‑old Ghanaian star has emerged as a dominant figure, reinforcing his standing in the Czech First League. His recent performances and central role in the side indicate he deserves broader recognition from the football world—and particularly from Ghana’s national‑team selectors.
The former Dreams FC talisman voiced his excitement about a potential Black Stars call‑up in an interview with Zed Sports, calling the opportunity “priceless.”
“It’s a dream come true for every Ghanaian footballer to represent the country. I’m no different—my family and I have always looked forward to the day I will receive a call from head coach Otto Addo. I would be overjoyed to receive the call, because it would be my first with the Black Stars. And that would be a different feeling, knowing that I played for the Black Meteors,” he explained.
He continued, emphasizing the need to stay prepared to wear the national badge whenever called upon.
“It’s hard to speak for others, but I feel it’s always a defining moment in our careers. Personally, I have no problem with that—aside from its significance, we need to give back to our country.”
Nombil has successfully made the leap from Ghana’s Premier League to Israeli giants Hapoel Jerusalem and, most recently, to the demanding Czech top‑flight. His value to Zlín isn’t measured by flashy goals but by the relentless, high‑tempo control he imposes in midfield. A glance at his performances this 2025/26 season shows an indispensable figure—tenacious, influential, and ever‑present.
As the 2026 World Cup draws nearer, Black Stars coach Otto Addo is seeking to strengthen several key areas, and Cletus Nombil hopes his recent form will earn him a call‑up to the national squad.
