Adopt Healthy Lifestyles to Prevent Prostate Cancer — Dr.  Mensah

Medical Practitioner and Adjunct Lecturer at Radford University College, Dr. Isaac Mensah, has cautioned men to adopt healthier lifestyles early in life to reduce the risk of developing prostate cancer in their later years.

Speaking on the Business Breakfast on Zed 101.9 FM, Dr. Mensah emphasised that many health challenges in old age are the result of poor lifestyle choices made during youth.

“We are in our youthful stages now, but it’s an accumulation of what we do today that will show in ten years. If you spend your 40s eating red meat, smoking, drinking alcohol, and eating late at night, by your 50s, you’ll likely be visiting the urologist for prostate tests,” he warned.

Dr. Mensah advised men to avoid smoking and alcohol completely, stressing that alcohol offers no health benefits.

“There is no advantage to taking alcohol. Your body handles its normal metabolism without it. Nothing good comes from alcohol intake,” he added.

He also discouraged the habit of eating late at night, explaining that it causes the body to store excess fat instead of burning it.

“After eating late, you go straight to bed, and the food is converted into fat, which builds up in the cells and can trigger abnormal cell growth,” he said.

Dr. Mensah further underscored the importance of regular exercise, especially among working professionals who lead sedentary lives.

“As you grow in your career, you may have drivers and office staff doing everything for you. But don’t forget to make time for yourself to walk, exercise, and stay active,” he advised.

He urged the public, particularly men in their 30s and 40s, to prioritise a balanced diet, regular physical activity, and routine health checks to safeguard their wellbeing and prevent prostate-related complications.
