Yusif Chibsah predicts difficult spell for Albert Amoah in Libya

‎By Victor Kwawu

‎Albert Amoah’s surprise move to four-time Libyan Premier League champions Al Ahli Benghazi has sparked criticism and reactions since its announcement by Asante Kotoko, with Yusif Chibsah being the latest to share his perspective on the former Kotoko target man’s move.

‎Chibsah, Head of Player Relations at the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG) and a former Black Stars midfielder, has expressed unease over the timing of Amoah’s switch to the Libyan outfit. Amoah completed the move just days after Asante Kotoko’s 5-1 loss to Wydad Athletic Club in the return leg of their CAF Confederation Cup tie, a development that surprised many in the local football community.

‎Chibsah stressed that several Ghanaian players opt for transfers to North African clubs at a stage that may not aid their growth. “Most players who move to North Africa do so at the wrong time, and that’s why they struggle,” he cautioned. “I wish Albert Amoah well, but it will be difficult,” he added.

‎Amoah, who signed for Kotoko from Great Olympics last season, quickly became one of the club’s most influential figures, registering 16 goals in 30 appearances and proving a consistent attacking threat for the Porcupine Warriors. His impact extended to continental action, netting twice in four matches during the CAF Confederation Cup preliminary rounds.

‎However, ‘The Butchers’, perennial exiters in the CAF interclubs competitions preliminary round, will aim to surpass their one-time 2018 quarter-final feat with Amoah on board.
