MTN Ghana has paid a total of GH¢7.3 billion in direct and indirect taxes to the government in the first nine months of 2025, cementing its position as one of the country’s biggest corporate taxpayers. The telecommunications giant also contributed GH¢1.2 billion in fees and levies to various government agencies over the same period.
According to its Third Quarter 2025 Financial Report, MTN Ghana recorded a profit of GH¢5.5 billion, representing a 45% increase over the same period in 2024. The company’s service revenue grew by 36.3% year-on-year to GH¢17.3 billion, driven largely by data, Mobile Money (MoMo), and voice services.
The report attributed this strong performance to MTN’s sustained investments in network infrastructure, improved service quality, and innovation under its value-based capital allocation framework. These, it said, have enabled the company to better meet customer needs and maintain its market leadership.
Data revenue grew sharply by 46.8% year-on-year to GH¢9.3 billion, buoyed by an 11.4% increase in active data subscribers, which rose to 18.9 million by the end of September 2025. Higher data consumption, improved connectivity, and customized data packages were key drivers of this growth.
Voice revenue also recorded a modest 9.3% year-on-year growth to GH¢2.9 billion, supported by a 6.4% increase in mobile subscribers and enhanced network quality. However, MTN noted that usage (measured in minutes) fell by 2.2% year-on-year due to a gradual shift toward Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) services such as WhatsApp and Telegram calls.
Mobile Money (MoMo) continued to be a strong revenue source, growing 39.2% year-on-year to GH¢4.3 billion. Active MoMo users increased by 4.1% to 17.7 million. Revenue from basic MoMo services rose by 30%, while advanced services, such as savings, loans, and insurance surged by 62.9%, reaching GH¢1.4 billion.
MTN’s digital revenue more than doubled, recording 103.3% year-on-year growth to GH¢324.4 million. The company credited this performance to an 18.7% rise in active digital users to 5.7 million, driven by strong uptake of its video streaming and gaming services.
Commenting on the results, MTN Ghana Chief Executive Officer, Stephen Blewett, said the company’s third-quarter performance was driven by consistent execution of its commercial strategy and operational improvements.
“MTN Ghana’s performance in the third quarter of 2025 was driven by a 6.4% year-on-year growth in our subscriber base and a 36.3% year-on-year increase in service revenue. Sustained capital investments and a more stable operating environment positively impacted our key business lines,” he stated.
MTN Ghana says it remains committed to deepening financial inclusion, expanding digital access, and supporting Ghana’s economic transformation through sustained investments and responsible corporate citizenship.
